Dealbreakers, Dating Tips & Diet for Great Sex, oh my!
Has the pandemic changed dating forever?
We love sharing stories about sex, relationships, and dating at Private Parts Unknown and celebrating love in every form, but looking for love in the Time of Corona might demand a little more discernment. While ‘Hot Vax Summer’ sounded like a wild and sexy free-for-all, data suggests dating priorities may have shifted since the good ol’ pre-pandemic days.
Online dating platform Dating.com shared their recent survey with us, and it reveals how singles have shifted their priorities during the COVID-19 pandemic. From vaccination status, ghosting, and political differences, people are learning to navigate new roadblocks in order to find that perfect match… or matches. 😉
Key Findings
86% of singles said being unvaccinated was a dealbreaker (WE GET IT)
35% of singles said a long-distance relationship was out of the cards
And 55% of those surveyed said being late to a date is an automatic buh-bye (bad news for late bitches like us!)
2020 wasn’t just a landmark year because of COVID. There was a v important election that had the world on the edge of its seat. Now, 72% of singles believe differing political views are a dealbreaker.
Other major dealbreakers include:
Incompatible zodiac signs (such a Taurus move)
Smoking
Racism

We were also lucky to pick the brain of one of Dating.com’s Vice President, and dating expert Maria Sullivan for some dating do’s and don’t’s during this ever-changing time.
The survey mentions that only 20% of people said being unemployed is a dealbreaker. Why do you think that is?
Due to the uncertainty of the pandemic, I think it’s possible that singles are feeling more understanding about a potential partner’s employment and financial situations. Many people at the start of the pandemic went through layoffs, furloughs, or pay cuts as various industries took hits. For others, the pandemic has been a time to take a step back from demanding jobs. Those who were able to save enough funds quit their jobs to pursue the things they’re passionate about. Finally, the pandemic has been a time for singles to reflect on what they really want in a potential partner, and many now think a partner’s job and economic status are less important than caring and compassion, which we all needed during the pandemic. The past year has opened people’s eyes to the bigger picture, so I think we’re seeing that same sentiment among Dating.com users.
In this political climate, do you think it's possible to successfully date someone with differing political views?
With differing political views, it’s all about finding common ground about which you can have a meaningful conversation. If either side is unable to listen and be open to a new point of view, the relationship will likely fizzle. Overall, it’s about your values and morals aligning. If you can’t see eye to eye, then it’s time to move on.
What’s the best advice for singles to meet someone in a post-COVID world?
After a long time of quarantining, it’s an exciting time for singles to get back in the dating scene. Be open to new people and have fun. Don’t judge a book by its cover — this person might surprise you and become the start of a flourishing relationship. Try new restaurants or local events you’re curious about. It’ll show your date what you’re interested in and give you time to bond over new experiences. Lastly, don’t force it! If a relationship works, great. If not, then enjoy being able to do things again on your own or with friends. Continue being open to a chance to meet someone new and for them to introduce you to people, places, and things that you never knew that you’d love. There might be more out there than you’ve even imagined.
Do you have any tips on creating the perfect dating profile in 2021?
In your dating profile, be honest about your interest and values. Even though photos are often a huge focus on dating apps, your personality is what will land the first date. Give potential dates a glimpse into your life by mentioning hobbies, beliefs, and likes in your profile — this can give people an opportunity to connect with you on similar interests.
BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE!
A brand new episode just dropped, and you don’t want to miss it…
This week, our guest is Diet for Great Sex author Christine DeLozier. Christine has mastered the art of integrating sex with a healthy diet plan to maximize the joys of a thriving sex life (aka bigger, better, longer orgasms, baby!). And who doesn’t want to have great sex! The barrier to having great sex can be what’s on the inside, not the outside, and Christine uses incredible scientific data to show just how we can take matters about our sex life into our own hands. Plus, she shares some sexy delicious meals she’s made to get us in the mood.
Pssst, did you know it’s Coke’s birthday?! 🎉
Cokes here! And today, on my birthday, I sit back and reflect on what got me here — right now, with you: sharing all of my sex and relationship wins, heartache, and everything in between on Private Parts Unknown. In fact, this whole podcast first started because I was such a mess. Caught somewhere between cool girl and trainwreck, trying navigating my love life on trendy dating apps, my less than chic post-break-up habits have always been on full display.
Part of this public vulnerability meant writing a piece for the LA Times about realizing what I *actually* wanted when I begged a f*ck boy for a relationship, and this essay I wrote for The Washington Post about some ugly post-breakup fantasies which turned into enlightenment.
So, don’t worry if it takes you a while to find love… some of us are late-bloomers. And it gets better: I’ve been with Wade for five years now, and that’s a pretty sweet birthday present if you ask me.
BUUUT, if you want to get buck wild with me on my birthday, you can give me a prezzie by leaving us a review for the pod! It’s my only bday wish, and you have to grant a bday wish (it’s the law).
xoxo Cokes
