Happy FriYAY, Privates!
I’m so excited to share this latest episode because I used to be the friggin’ worst, messiest, most dramatic person who ever went through a breakup. I got dumped by serious boyfriends twice in my mid to late 20s and then dated a fuck boy who wouldn’t commit in my early 30s, and I did NOT handle it well.Â
Exhibit A:Â My breakup survival plan? Binge-reading the New York Times Vows column.
Exhibit B:Â L.A. Affairs: I begged him to be my boyfriend.
It was so bad I got a ticket from the self-esteem police (read: LAPD, seriously). I’d done a lot of work on myself up to that point, but that ticket was the wake-up call I needed to finally learn how to move on. I met my now-fiancé literally that night, we got together soon after, and we’ve been together for over six years. I hope we stay together for the long haul, but I like to think I’d handle it better if I had to go through a breakup again.
For this episode, I wanted to make the guide that my former self desperately needed. So I enlisted the help of three women who not only harnessed the opportunity in their breakups, but turned it into their life’s work: Amy Chan of Breakup Bootcamp, Kendra Allen of Break Up Bestie, and Gabrielle Stone of Eat, Pray, #FML.
